Decor Ideas & Inspiration
This design is not a mix of 2 styles but 2 ideas that people tend to think do not go hand in hand.
More and more people are trying to declutter their lives from materialistic things and changing their views on life by living minimally.
We often tend to equate colourful decor with maximalism and neutral decor with minimalism, which is not true. So, this design showcases how you can be minimal (own stuff that you really need) and still have a colourful home if that's what makes you happy!
The general idea is to buy furniture that you would use in your daily life and is absolutely essential forYOU.
You can decorate your home with paintings, sculptures and anything that you absolutely love but remember not to start collecting stuff over time because you are trying to intentionally create a minimal home.
When possible, avoid tchotchkes (stuff that is beautiful to look at but not really functional) in a minimal design.
The decor style used in this design is Scandinavian as it is naturally minimal with clean lines. The floors are wooden, grey in colour and in a Fishbone pattern. A similar Fishbone pattern is used as backsplash in the kitchen. The walls are all white and the furniture is light grey in colour. Now that we have a neutral base it will be easier to add colours that we love in our home!
Colours that reflect the outdoor environment (earthy tones) have been used in this design in fabrics. So, you can see that these colours pop on cushion covers, rugs, bedding and upholstery.
You can paint the walls or use wallpapers, not necessary to keep them neutral. The only reason I have kept them white is that it is easier to change the ambiance of the room by changing the cushion covers, rugs and bedding later on!
As always, remember, there are no hard and fast rules, have fun decorating your home!
